  • The National Institutes of Health has a comprehensive list of government and nonprofit organizations to turn to for assistance with paying for medical care, paying for medications, insurance issues, financial aid for medical treatments, and participation in clinical trials
  • The Access Project provides information, strategies and tools for people struggling with medical debt.
  • The Patient Advocate Foundation has a variety of resources addressing access to care, maintenance of employment and preservation of financial stability for patients.
  • Consumer Reports has a blog series, "Health-Care Savings" that addresses different ideas for saving money on health care when your budget is tight. The blog covers a range of topics, including talking to your doctor about how to save on drugs, low-income programs and insurance for the unemployed, and taking advantage of condition-based programs.
  • The Health Resources and Services Administration Web site provides tools that help you find a federally funded health center in your area that can care for you even if you have no health insurance.
  • The United Way's 2-1-1 is an online clearinghouse for health and human services in your local community. In 47 states, you can also dial 2-1-1 on your phone and be connected with a specialist who can help you with your questions.
